"RUN TO THE FARM", ERIC DONALDSON

HAD I UNDERSTOOD THE REGGAE ARTISTE THEN - I WOULD HAVE BEEN A MULTI MILLIONAIRE FARMER TODAY!

When in my secondary school days I was devouring the sweet melody of Eric Donaldson -  the unbeatable reggae artiste of his time - little did I know he was admonishing us to run to the farm.

Yes, every reggae line then was a pack of message, but we were all engrossed in the melody and the typical rhythmic dance step.

In the attached music, Eric Donaldson was calling Jamaicans to run to the farm - that was in the early '80s. He was calling everyone - students, those wearing dreadlocks, the Baldheaded, even those with screw face, all were admonished to run to the farm.

Had I listened, had I understood him, if I had gotten the relics and heed to his call, today I would have been a millionaire farmer.

Now consider this: my family had a very large empty land. If, for example I had planted 20 palm trees every year - from when the music was released  (in my class 3) - in 8 years time that I became a graduate I would have gotten about 160 palm trees! And who said I could not have planted 100 trees every year as a student!

Today, one head of palm tree fruit sells for about N5,000. And on the average, a palm tree yields average of 12 heads per year. This means that the value of one palm tree in today's economy stands at about N60,000 per year. Consequently, 160 trees would yield N9,600,000 per annum!

But the Clarion call by Eric Donaldson is still relevant today! In fact, there's no better time to heed to his call than now. We are in the month of March, 2025 when clearing of farm land starts, and by next month when the rains must have fully come, it would be the ripe time to start sowing.

What are you waiting for?
