SIR ENGR JOHN AGOSI

THE UNQUANTIFIABLE VALUE OF HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT IN AKPU: AN EAGLE EYE'S REPORT ON SIR ENGR JOHN AGOSI

By Okey Emmanuel ODEWAIWAI

Great achievers in the society scarcely blow their own trumpet. It only takes an eagle eye to fish them out for the society to appreciate their good works. And for those of us who are literal trumpeters, it's our duty to search them out in order to encourage other blessed citizens in the community to emulate them.

One personality in Akpu who has enviable records on human resources development is SirEngr John Agosi. But this Catholic faithful and enthusiast lives by the admonishment of Mother Theresa who in her writing on _The Power of Quiet Acts_ said that the most impactful acts of giving often occurred in silence, without the need for recognition or fanfare.

Yes, our brother believes in the biblical injunction that what your right hand gives to the needy, your left hand should not know. I was amazed when I got privy to the number of Akpu sons and daughters who got employed into well-structured organizations through Engr Agosi's interventions. On the last count, 14 persons through him secured permanent employment in organizations like banks, Globacom, ICT companies, and other conglomerates such as PZ, CHAMS Plc, SIMS, etc. The record also showed that about Fifteen persons got placements for their ITs - also in such corporate organizations. He has also helped a good number of Akpu citizens to get juicy postings for their NYSC. On the whole, a total of 41 persons have benefited from his interventions.

The multiple and long time effect of such remarkable gestures is enormous. In due course, it would certainly place a good number of Ndî Akpu in rich career path . This is the secret of our neighbouring community who consciously make it a point of duty to secure employments for their young graduates in corporate organizations where they build rich mouthwatering careers.

I encourage our privileged personalities who are in privileged positions to emulate Engr John Agosi in this worthy course of human capacity building of our teaming youths. It will also not be out of place if persons like him are given proper recognition/awards by our town's institutions like APU, the Igwe cabinet, Youth organization or Student Union..

The saying is true, let's encourage our people to teach our youths how to fish and not leading them to the barbecues.
