THE 2 DR BENS IN ORUMBA

By Okey Emmanuel ODEWAIWAI

There are defining moments in the life of a people—rare seasons when history, leadership, and opportunity converge to reshape destiny. For Orumba, that moment appears to be now.

Once a formidable political bloc in Anambra State, Orumba’s influence was built on the shoulders of visionary patriarchs—men of courage, intellect, and strategic depth. Figures like Igwe Chief M.N. Ugochukwu, High Chief E.C.I. Onuigbo, Chief T.N. Madu, and the iconic Chief Alex Ekwueme did not merely occupy positions; they defined an era. Under their stewardship, Orumba commanded respect, negotiated power, and shaped the political direction of the state.

Over time, however, that dominance waned, giving way to a quieter presence in the political landscape. But history has a way of repeating itself—especially when a people are anchored in resilience and collective memory.
Today, a new chapter is unfolding.

At the center of this resurgence stands Hon. Dr. Ben Nwankwo, Ishingidi —a seasoned politician, strategist, and unifying force. Having represented Orumba in Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives three times, Ishingidi has built both experience and influence. His recent appointment as Chief of Staff to Governor Charles Soludo is not merely a personal milestone; it is a strategic elevation of Orumba within the power architecture of Anambra State.

Ishingidi's strength lies not only in his political pedigree but in his ability to serve as a rallying point. In a region often characterized by fragmented interests, he embodies cohesion. His position at the heart of government ensures that Orumba is no longer on the periphery of decision-making but at its core.

Yet, political power alone does not transform a region. Sustainable greatness requires economic vision—and this is where the second force in this narrative emerges.
Dr. Ben Odoemena represents a different, yet equally critical dimension of leadership: technocratic excellence. With a distinguished career spanning several United Nations agricultural agencies, he brings global experience, innovation, and credibility. His appointment as Commissioner for Agriculture signals a deliberate shift toward knowledge-driven governance.

Orumba’s identity as an agricultural stronghold makes this appointment even more significant. This is not coincidence—it is strategy.
Dr. Odoemena’s vision of investor-driven, industrialized agriculture powered by technology aligns perfectly with the broader developmental blueprint of the Soludo administration. His mission goes beyond boosting farm yields; it is about transforming agriculture into a value chain—one that integrates production, processing, marketing, and export.

At a time when Anambra State is repositioning Orumba as the site for major infrastructure projects—including an industrial hub, free trade zone, and airport—the synergy becomes unmistakable. Political access meets economic innovation. Influence meets expertise. Vision meets execution.

Together, the “Two Dr Bens” symbolize a dual-engine of transformation. One operates within the corridors of power, shaping policy, aligning interests, and securing strategic advantages. The other works within the fields and systems of production, building a new economic foundation rooted in agriculture and industrialization.

This convergence is not accidental—it is historic.

If properly harnessed, it has the potential to reposition Orumba as not just a regional player, but a central force in Anambra’s future. The implications are far-reaching: job creation, rural development, youth engagement, food security, and increased internally generated revenue.

But beyond policies and projects, there is a deeper narrative at play—a psychological reawakening. A people once known for their strength are beginning to believe again. There is a growing sense that Orumba’s best days are not behind it, but ahead.

However, destiny is never fulfilled in isolation. The success of this emerging era will depend on collective responsibility—community leaders, business stakeholders, youth, and traditional institutions must align with this vision. Unity, long identified as a missing link, must now become the driving force.

The season has come.
The signs are clear.
Orumba stands at the threshold of renewal—powered by experience, guided by expertise, and carried by a renewed sense of purpose.

Indeed, this may well be remembered as the Season of Orumba Greatness—a time when history did not just repeat itself, but evolved into something even greater.
